Castelrotto, Italy

Stop three on our journey brought us to the home country of some of my favorite foods, Italy! Castelrotto is situated just a few minutes away from the Dolomites, and some of the most popular skiing locations in Italy. While the mountains and hiking are definitely a hot attraction, the city itself is equally drawing, with rich history and culture. Castelrotto was originally part of Germany, and the land was made Italian following World War II. Therefore, the city itself is rich with both German and Italian culture, and its people speak German.

I took a short hike up the hill at the edge of the city with some other members of our tour group after our group mixer. It was really exciting to get to know some of the other people traveling with us, and fun to explore even when my group was ready to turn in. On our full day in Castelrotto, my family and I took the gondola up to the top of the mountain to do some hiking and sight-seeing. At the top, we took a break for hot chocolate and, you guessed it, another apple strudel! All in all, our time in this small village was jam-packed with outdoor adventure, and some of the most delicious pizza we've ever had (unfortunately, not pictured, because we ate it too fast).
