Hallstatt, Austria

The second stop on our Alpine Tour of Europe was Hallstatt, a very small alpine village made famous for its salt mines and spectacular views. Our accomodations in Hallstatt were some of the best on our trip, featuring a beautiful deck overlooking the town. Here, we enjoyed lunch atop the mountain (complete with apple strudel, of course), a stop by the Hallstatt history museum, a leisurely walk around the town, and a lake tour.

We ended our day in the most picturesque village on our tour with a glass of wine on the balcony, followed by a delicious dinner. This relaxing stop was a favorite of our group, and while our day was lovely, we wish we could've had another! A great place to visit for a relaxing vacation away from the hustle and bustle, or a great day trip from Salzburg - either way, worth the trip!

My name is Haley and I am a first time patron of Rick Steves Europe. I travel often for work stateside, and enjoyed my first experience abroad so much that I've chronicled my time with Rick Steves to share my experience with others!
